Broken Pairs and Broken Families - Part 1/? -- Realization --

Description: Thomas didn't always have 2 sets of sides. In fact, there was never supposed to be 7 of them.

Warnings: lots and lots of angst

Realization

Thomas didn't know when it happened, when he stopped being able to touch his sides. He had just turned 7 a few weeks prior, and he wasn't sure what exactly was going on. The world was so fascinating... he wanted to know everything, and that scared him. He wanted to go everywhere he possibly could, but didn't want anything to change at the same time. He wanted to let his creativity run rampant, but at the same time he was reprimanded for doing just that. It was a constant struggle within himself, and it hurt. But there came a day when it was... calm wasn't the right word. Eerily quiet, more like. It didn't just scare him, but it made him so anxious. No, it gave him Anxiety. And Fear.

He only had 4 sides, Creativity, Persistence, Suspicion, and Feelings. There was never, ever, an Anxiety. Nor was there ever a Fear. "They're new, kill them." "No, don't do that. We don't know for sure that they're bad..." Thomas was confused, and wanted answers. He had only one Creativity, yet that was a battle of Creativities? Black and White. Wrong and Right. Good, and Bad...

Thomas summoned his sides for an explanation, and holy Heracles, "Why are there 8 of you?" He looked around the group and saw 4 wearing primarily light colors, the other half wearing primarily dark colors. The Darks and Lights separated, the Darks going so far as to hiss at the lights. Thomas shut them all up with a look, all their hands going to their mouths but the one dressed in black and yellow. The one that had... snake scales?.. covering half of his face.

After a hasty introduction of sides; Morality in light blue and white, Logic in dark blue and white, Good Creativity in white and red, Fear in all white, Deceit in black and yellow, Anger in black and orange, Bad Creativity in black and green, and Anxiety in all black.

Morality spoke up, "Deceit and I made up Feelings, Logic and Obsession made up Persistence, Fear and Anxiety made up Suspicion, and Good and Bad Creativity obviously made up Creativity."

"Yeah, okay. But like, why?"

"First of all, call me Princey. Pretty Please?"

"Okay...Princey..."

"Secondly, we all have no idea."

"Great." Thomas folds his arms and sighs, looking to the figure in dark blue. "Logic, right?"

"Y-yes. Indeed, Thomas."

"Do you have any ideas? Based on your name, you are quite literally... Logic."

"Well, based on what I could gather, it's because you're growing both physically and in maturity. You are exploring yourself, expressing yourself, and with that... comes more of us."

"Oh, so... you will all duplicate as I get older?"

"Well, there isn't enough information at the present to know for sure, but I believe that as you grow the number of us will flux. You've started understanding right and wrong more intimately, and therefore split us into the good and bad versions of our original states."

"Huh. That... makes sense I guess." Thomas was about to say more, but just then...

"Thomas! Dinner time!"

"Sorry guys, I gotta go. Talk to you later, okay?"

But he wouldn't talk with all of them. Over dinner, he got the talking of his life about some of the ideas in his homework. He realized that his Sides had split at the right time, because it would be easier to ignore the icky sides of himself now. It would be easier to shove them into the Subconscious, where only the most ugly parts of him resided. Where he wouldn't have to think about all the lies and icky imagery. He would be good. He had to be good. Entirely good.

Chapter notes: I don't know what I was thinking when I started this series. I guess that I was just looking for something new for me to explore. I've recently started getting into backstories, and I think this will be fun. Hope you enjoy!
